Water Well
The water crisis in the southeast Ethiopia is on the rise. Data from Water.org indicate that over 42% of Ethiopians have no reliable supply of clean water. These figures are even higher in Dhamole southeast of Ethiopia and can go as high as 70%. Just like other African countries, water resources in Ethiopia are unevenly distributed.
Access to clean water is a whole community concern. Every day Mothers and children walk tens of kilometers in search of drinkable water. This condition is worse among the arid and semi-arid communities of Ethiopia. Apart from the rough road, they have to endure frequent conflicts at the water points
In addition, they face the danger of sexual and physical assault. For this reason, fetching water is a disempowering, difficult, and dangerous affair for millions of mothers and children across the country.
Gelle Foundation seeks to alleviate mothers and children from these struggles by gifting communities a lasting solution. We work alongside local leaders to identify areas with dire water needs and build well and other water sources. This approach ensures every member of the community has access to clean, reliable, and safe water in a stress-free way.
